Resetting the State of an Instance

An instance may remain in an intermediate state if problems occur during certain operations. For example, a failed attempt to delete an instance may cause it to remain in a deleting state. Reset the instance before re-attempting the operation.

Resetting After a Failed Deletion Attempt

Note: Resetting the state of an instance can result in the loss of any data and important settings stored on the instance.

In the case of a failed deletion attempt, use
openstack server set --state
to manually reset the instance to an error state. Then delete it:

$ openstack server set --state error <INSTANCE_ID>
$ openstack server delete <INSTANCE_ID>

Resetting After a Failed Migration Attempt

In the case of a failed migration, contact Metacloud Support to reset the state of the instance.
